Hoppy Easter Everybody

This weekend is an eggs-ellent time to be a Hurricanes fan.  The 'Canes are giving away Easter eggs to the first 4000 kids to arrive for their Round 7 afternoon match against entrants the Southern Kings.

If you don't have your own,  maybe borrow someone else's kids to make the most of family deals for the Hurricanes game ($40 for two adults and all the kids), and the Highlanders v Reds match with Take a Kid to the Footy packages ($26 for one adult, one kid) on offer. The deal has been so popular, the Highlanders have added another 1,000 seats for sale.

It's Easter at the Mount and the Blues are heading down to Chiefs' territory at Mt Maunganui's Baypark Stadium on Saturday.  More than 8,000 tickets have already been sold and the Chiefs are urging all their fans to get behind the team.  Tickets are available from Ticketek.  Meanwhile, check out whose ears are pricked up for Easter in this photo of Chiefs Rhys Marshall and Michael Kainga helping Plunket with fundraising.

The Highlanders are often known as men of few words ... but while they're focussed on their must-win match against the Reds tomorrow night, there's always time for a little Easter spirit....

Happy Easter from the Highlanders

We caught Hurricanes fullback Andre Taylor during a warm up for a commercial shoot this week. Who knew work in front of the cameras could be such hard work?  See if you can figure who this shoot was for ....

Guess the shoot?

Super Rugby jersey sponsor BNZ has been fundraising for Plunket, auctioning jerseys  produced for last year's "Plunket" round where BNZ swapped out their logo for Plunket's as part of annual appeal.  This week the Crusaders Plunket jersey went for $365, the Chiefs jersey for $305, the Highlanders jersey has just been re-listed, as has Piri Weepu's Blues jersey. The Hurricanes were off-shore for this round last year.

Coming up this weekend

Highlanders v Reds: 7.35pm, Friday 29 March, Forsyth Barr Stadium, Dunedin

Teams Head to Head

It's match 17 for these two teams (they didn't play in 2011) and the Highlanders currently lead the Reds with nine wins to seven and 462 points to 353 - that's an average of over six points more per game - but the Reds took the honours last year in Brisbane 19-13.
It was 2007 when the Reds last made it to Dunedin but the odds are heavily in the home team's favour for this one: five wins and two half-centuries from their five outings, including a 57-17 win in the Highlanders' first game back in 1996.

Hurricanes v Kings: 4.35pm, Saturday 30 March, Westpac Stadium, Wellington
Teams Head to Head

The new kings on the block will want to end their New Zealand tour on a good note, but the Hurricanes have a strong track record against South African sides: they've earned 39 wins from 72 games and have scored over 2000 points for an average of 28.1 points per game, which conceding just a smudge over 20 points.
The 'Canes are also coming off a week off. In 2012, they came back from one bye and the break to chalk up wins, while in 2011 they earned wins after both byes.

Chiefs v Blues: 7.35pm, Saturday 30 March, Baypark Stadium, Mt Maunganui
Teams Head to Head

There have been 19 contests between these two neighbours and each can claim honours: the Blues have more wins (10 to the Chiefs' nine) but the Chiefs have scored more points - 493 to the Blues' 456. The Chiefs won both 2012 matches 41-34 and 29-14.
The Chiefs brought up 500 points against a New Zealand team for the first time during Friday's victory over the Highlanders, and there's a good chance they'll do it again this week, having scored 11 or more points in each of their games against the Blues.

Stormers v Crusaders: 4.10am, Sunday 31 March (NZT), DHL Newlands Stadium, Cape Town
Teams Head to Head

This one should be a cracker, with both sides angling for their thid win in their fifth match of the 2013 season.

The Stormers may not be feeling too confident though. The Crusaders have won the last three encounters between these two, including a 31-24 win in ChCh last year, and have won 13 of their 17 matches so far. The red and blacks also have a healthy lead on points and score an average of just over nine more points each match with 505 points to the Stormers' 351.
